TATTOO AFTERCARE
Within 2 Hours of Leaving the Studio:
-
Remove your dressing (if present).
-
With clean hands, gently wash the area using warm (not hot!) water and a mild, fragrance-free soap (e.g. Dr Bronner’s Unscented Baby Soap or similar). This may be easiest done in the shower.
-
Let the area air dry, or gently pat dry with a clean paper towel. Do not rub.
-
Once fully dry, apply a very thin layer of Palmer’s Cocoa Butter or another suitable, fragrance-free moisturiser.
-
Apply moisturiser sparingly - do not re-cover or bandage the tattoo.
Days 1–2:
-
Gently wash your tattoo twice daily (morning and evening).
-
Apply moisturiser after each wash or whenever the skin feels dry or tight.
Days 2–14:
-
Continue to moisturise daily for at least 14 days, or until the tattoo is fully healed.
-
As your tattoo heals, it may peel or scab. This is normal - DO NOT pick or peel the skin.
-
If the tattoo feels itchy, DO NOT scratch. Lightly pat the area or apply moisturiser for relief - but be careful not to disturb healing skin.
THINGS TO AVOID:
-
DO NOT re-bandage or cover the tattoo - skin needs air to heal.
-
DO NOT touch your tattoo (or let others touch it) with unwashed hands.
-
DO NOT scratch or itch the area - even lightly.
-
DO NOT peel or pick scabs or flaking skin.
-
DO NOT wear tight or restrictive clothing that rubs the tattoo.
-
DO NOT soak the tattoo (e.g. baths, swimming, or long/hot showers).
-
DO NOT use oil-based products (including Vaseline) or perfumed soap.
-
DO NOT expose your tattoo to uncontrolled water sources, such as:
-
swimming pools
-
hot tubs
-
lakes or the ocean
-
-
DO NOT use saunas, steam rooms, or sunbeds during healing.
Also Avoid:
-
Letting the area become too dry - apply moisturiser when needed.
-
Excess sweating, intense physical activity, or contact sports.
-
Exposure to dirt, oil, grease, chemicals, and pets (they carry bacteria).
Once Healed:
-
Protect your tattoo from sun exposure: use broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, or keep it covered.
-
Keep skin moisturised regularly to maintain the tattoo’s vibrancy.
-
For added glow, you can use Palmer’s Body Oil to hydrate and highlight the area.
If You’re Concerned:
If your tattoo becomes excessively red, swollen, painful, or begins to ooze unusual fluid (yellow/green), this may be a sign of infection - seek medical advice or contact us.
